Sam Sober

Atlanta, GA Emory University Biology Department

Professor Samuel Sober is a neurobiologist at Emory University who studies how the brain processes sensory information and learns from experience. By combing studies of brain structure and function with advance mathematical techniques, Dr. Sober’s research seeks to reveal how external stimuli are transformed into the patterns of brain activity that give rise to our sensory experiences such as hearing, vision and taste. In addition to his research, Dr. Sober also developed “Delicious! How the Brain Creates Flavor,” a first-year seminar at Emory (in which local chefs, including Anne Quatrano and Jonathan Kallini, serve as special guest lecturers) emphasizing the links between neuroscience and gastronomy.
