Jason Kosmas pioneered the craft and classic cocktail movement in New York City with the opening of Employees Only in 2004. For over a decade, Jason has been an influential force in shaping drinking and night-life as a bartender, restaurant owner, consultant, author and spirits producer. Jason currently resides in Austin, TX where he continues to champion cocktail culture through his latest venture, The 86 Co. – a spirits and marketing company producing fine spirits for bartenders. In 2006, Jason Kosmas (with co-author Dushan Zaric) released YOU DIDN’T HEAR IT FROM US, a social commentary and dating guide for woman from the bartender’s perspective published by Simon & Schuster. In 2010, Kosmas and Zaric released SPEAKEASY: The Employees Only Guide to Classic Cocktails Reimagined which was nominated for Best Cocktail Book at Tales of the Cocktail in 2011. In 2012 Jason Kosmas transitioned from the restaurant business to form The 86 Co. a spirits company dedicated to creating spirits specifically for the bartender. Aligned with Kosmas’ philosophy of “refined drinking”, The 86 Co. democratizes the opportunity of every bar to make great cocktails. Currently they produce such acclaimed spirits as Aylesbury Duck Vodka, Caña Brava Rum, Tequila Cabeza and Fords Gin. Since their launch, the spirits have earned prestigious awards and been featured in both trade and popular national media outlets.
