Pano I. Karatassos is executive chef of Kyma, corporate executive chef for Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, and author of a forthcoming, Greek-inspired cookbook, Modern Greek Cooking that will debut in September 2018. Chef Pano began learning the basics of Greek cooking from his grandmother, which inspired his career in the industry. He worked in the kitchens of his family’s restaurants before earning his formal chef training at the famed Culinary Institute of America. Over the years, Karatassos has cooked in world renowned kitchens across the country and studied under three of the top five chefs in the world, including Thomas Keller, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Eric Ripert. In 2001, Karatassos returned home to Atlanta and opened Kyma, which means “wave” in Greek. Upon opening, Kyma gained local and national attending from publications such as Esquire, Food & Wine, Gourmet and Cooking Light. The menu is composed of classic Greek dishes from chef Pano’s family traditions and inspired the Greek recipes for chef Pano’s forthcoming cookbook “Modern Greek Cooking” which will debut this September.
