Mihoko Obunai was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She moved New York City to attend New York University. She also attended International Culinary Center, where she earned a culinary degree. Obunai moved to Atlanta in 2005 and co-opened Repast in Midtown, Atlanta. Obunai incorporate her Japanese influences, ingredients, and cooking techniques to her menu at Repast. After six successful years, Obunai closed Repast in 2011 and became a consultant for some of Atlanta’s top restaurants and chefs. Throughout Obunai’s career, she has been featured in various publications and invited to cook at the James Beard house. In 2010, she was selected as a Rising Star Chef and later competed on the Food Network’s “Chopped.” Obunai trained with Chef Jack Nakamura, her ramen mentor, at Ramen Lab in New York City. She later launched her own ramen pop-ups- Mibo Ramen in Atlanta and other cities. Having helmed successful ramen pop-ups nationwide, Obunai continues to amaze with her subtle blend of traditional technique and bold new concepts.
