Jared Hucks
The Alden
A very colorful road led Chef Jared Hucks to open his namesake restaurant just a few miles from where he grew up. Not only did that road wind from the States to S America, New Zealand to Australia, SE Asia to Africa and Western Europe to Scandinavia, but the cultures and culinary training he was exposed to along the way, gave him the culinary sensibility he showcases nightly at his restaurant, The Alden. Hucks was immediately drawn to the restaurant industry during a summer job at an Italian restaurant. After graduating High School, he moved to Colorado, where he worked at LaTour and the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa. Realizing he wanted formal culinary training, Hucks enrolled in The French Culinary Institute in NYC, where he graduated with honors. In 2006, looking to broaden his palate and experience, Chef Hucks made the life changing decision to take off on what he thought would be an 18-month gastronomic adventure around the world. During what ended up being a 7-year culinary expedition, Jared cooked at some of the world’s most acclaimed restaurants including Guillaume at Bennelong, at the Sydney Opera House, Restaurant Arzak, in San Sebastian, Spain under internationally celebrated Chefs Juan Mari and Elena Arzak, alongside one of Scotland’s preeminent chefs, Jim Cowey, known for his sustainable seafood acumen and finally at the world’s highest rated restaurant, Noma in Denmark. In 2016 he signed a lease for a space in Parkview on Peachtree. In 2018 Hucks opened The Alden, which he designed himself with the help of his friend Andy Amor and his mother Emily, with blown glass crafted by his brother, acclaimed glass artist Rob Stern.
In the six years since opening, Chef Hucks was named one of the Michelin Guide’s recommended restaurants and has obtained his own following, with guests coming from all parts of the country to experience his inspired multi-course tasting menus and a la carte creations.
