Kardea Brown is a contemporary Southern cook born in Charleston, South Carolina. She is of Gullah/ Geechee decent, a term used to describe a distinct group of African Americans living in the coastal areas of South Carolina and Georgia who have managed to preserve much of their West African language, culture and cuisine. Kardea created the pop-up New Gullah Supper Club, where her menu pays homage to the dishes her grandmother and mother passed down to her. She is the host of Delicious Miss Brown on Food Network which averages over 1 million viewers per episode. She has also hosted Cupcake Championship on Food Network and The Great Soul Food Cook Off on OWN. Kardea served as a resident judge on BYUTV’s Dinner Takes All and most recently Spring Baking Championship on Food Network. Kardea has appeared on several shows such as Beat Bobby Flay, BBQ Blitz, Chopped Junior, Chopped, Best Thing I’ve Ever Ate, Cooks vs. Cons, Family Food Showdown and Farmhouse Rules. In October 2022, Kardea launched her first cookbook, The Way Home: A Celebration of Sea Islands Food and Family with over 100 Recipes. The Way Home was an instant best seller, landing at number 6 on The New York Times bestsellers list one week after its release.
