La Farm Bakery – recognized as one of “America’s best bread bakeries” by Saveur Magazine – is helmed by bread baker Lionel Vatinet. A three-time James Beard Foundation nominee for “Outstanding Baker” and one of the most sought-after bread consultants in America, Vatinet is a gifted baker and teacher. Vatinet and his wife opened their North Carolina bakery, La Farm, in 1999, introduced an adjacent café 10 years later, followed by a Bread Truck, and his first bread book for home bakers in 2013, A Passion for Bread: Lessons from a Master Baker. At La Farm Bakery, Vatinet marries European techniques with local, stone-ground heirloom grains to produce 15 different breads daily, and many seasonal ones yearly. Vatinet’s breads, bakery and techniques have been featured in Garden & Gun, O: The Oprah Magazine, and Food & Wine magazine called his tips “brilliant.”
